[ Music ] >> Becoming certified in your industry demonstrates advanced knowledge, long term interests and a strong initiative. >> HR specifically has a certification just for students, to show that they understand the body knowledge inside of the field. So, that's a way that I can say "Hey this student is really committed. They're checking off all the boxes that they possibly can check off.". [ Music ] >> Learning the industry's leading technology enables you to hit the ground running upon being hired. >> Having that skill set, the most standard of software today for architect. I mean when you got for an application out of college, you're going to want to know your proficiency in those. So, I think that's a real plus, if you want to, you know, push your resume up or your portfolio up. [ Music ] >> Attending industry events, like seminars and conferences are a great way to expand both your knowledge and your network. >> It's never too soon to start building your network, your social capital. So, you look at what events are connected out there, so that you can go and put yourself out there, you know, shake hands, introduce yourself. I always say that the worst thing anyone's ever going to say to you is "no". [ Music ] >> Staying current with industry publications will keep you up to speed with what's happening in the industry. This insider knowledge can be beneficial at both networking events and job interviews. >> Know what's going on in the markets. So, you know read the Wall Street Journal, understand what's going on there. That's probably the biggest thing. [ Music ] >> The key to critical thinking is learning how to evaluate information to make logical and unbiased decisions in the work place. >> So, if you can develop critical listening skills, you then are able to see what needs to be solved and if you can become a problem solver, you are invaluable to any organization, has been my experience in all the fields that I've worked in so far.
