My name is Kate Doyle and I'm a staff development officer. The United Nations is an international organization, funded by member states, which are countries around the world who are interested in supporting an organization that tackles global problems, such as the eradication pf poverty, women's rights, environmental protection. And so I'm in the human resources department and specifically the career development team. So in my role, I work on learning programs and other kinds of career development activities and tools and services that will help UN staff grow in their careers, hopefully become more fulfilled by the jobs that they're in, learn about different career paths they might wanna take in the UN later on. I am working on putting together the results of our second staff engagement survey that we did a few months ago. So this was the second global survey that we did to understand, from staff, what they are happy with about the United Nations as an employer and what they are dissatisfied with. So we recently got the results from this survey. We're working on presenting them to the senior leaders of our organization, and then we're going to disseminate them to all staff and determine how we're going to get action plans done to address the weaknesses that we found from the data. We also have various induction programs. There's one that I'm working on for young professionals, for when they join the organization. It's a week-long training, hosted at different duty stations, to give them an idea of what life is like at the UN or to work at the UN in Nairobi, for example, or Vienna or Bangkok. So right now we're determining for 2020 where these two induction programs will be held, which duty stations and what the agendas will be, because they're a little different each year. My hours right now are pretty much nine to five, although I do log on in the evenings to take care of some things. Always trying to balance mom life and work life, and one good thing about my job now is I can keep it pretty much nine to five.
